Location Berlin, Germany
This really doesn’t seem very German at all — without the bureaucratic seriousness and organizational rigor so often stereotypically attributed to us: a headquarters that suddenly pops up and is initially set up for just three years. When something can simply “appear” without extensive prior planning and solid foundations, it conveys a sense of lightness, speed, and immediacy. And that is precisely what this project is about — both in terms of process and space.

etBrains GmbH, an internationally operating software company, commissioned blocher partners to develop such a concept. In collaboration with Scaling Spaces, a temporally conceived working environment was created, one that integrates itself in an agile and productive way into the vibrant center of Berlin. The location is the Cuvry Campus in Kreuzberg—“urban, raw, full of energy.”

The building consists of five floors with a rectangular layout, the main linear façade oriented to the north, and a large central core with stairs and elevators positioned on the opposite side of each floor, alongside the restrooms. A total of 1,000 square meters of office space was created for 114 employees. Here, JetBrains was able to establish itself — complete with views of the Spree, street art, and layers of urban history: the unmistakable Berlin spirit.

The pop-up concept is combined with the promotion of individuality and adaptability, reflecting the identity of a software company. Employees are encouraged to actively shape and further develop their spaces themselves. The interior design supports this by remaining deliberately understated while providing a solid foundation. A modular spatial concept was developed, conceived as a stage for ongoing transformation.

The areas are color-zoned, carrying a narrative in which each floor represents a Berlin landmark — from the “Goldelse” to the Philharmonie. The design aesthetic embraces an urban flair, based on materials such as concrete and metal, complemented by creative street and tape art. The working environment is approachable and gains a sense of informality through flexible furniture, readymades, and raw elements. Folding tables, sofas, and open areas are all part of the setup.

Within this framework, a suitable space can be found for every current need — whether for retreat, exchange, or creative freedom.
