Within architecture, there are varying degrees of activity, and a library, for example, is certainly among the quieter building typologies. An advertising agency, such as the Shanghai-based Chinese Publicis Groupe, by contrast, is a place of multidimensional movement. Acquisition, analysis, creative phases, decision-making processes, and implementation only roughly describe this pulsating work environment. The China headquarters — located in a new building and equipped with 2,656 permanent workstations — has now been transformed into a workspace by the Stuttgart-based Ippolito Fleitz Group. Eight floors within a high-rise had to be planned and unified under a cohesive stylistic concept. A carefully developed, multi-layered color and material scheme varies across the individual floors and areas, creating distinct identities while maintaining an overall connection. This differentiation unfolds vertically, providing orientation and a visual rhythm. Another unifying element is the central sculptural staircase, which, in an office environment typically dominated by elevators, offers both a spatial experience and opportunities for unexpected encounters. It symbolically represents dynamic movement within the community and collective energy. The centerpiece of the visitor level is the circular “Pitch Room,” whose flexible furniture allows for scalable use. Intelligent glass walls provide privacy when needed. The interactive “Digital Award Wall” — an LED installation projected through glass blocks — showcases the agency’s greatest achievements. Each floor is organized around a central core that functions as an anchor point and is clad in stainless steel panels. It houses access to the elevators, as well as restrooms, social spaces, and vending facilities. From the lobby, a “Team Hub” unfolds, featuring an employee-centered service landscape. Pantry kitchens are located on every floor, while the “Grand Pantry” serves the entire headquarters. It can be spatially and technically adapted as needed — for employees and guests, for lunch or events. In such moments, this dynamic think tank becomes even more vibrant.
