Strong Color Concept

The redesigned headquarters of the internet service agency 11880 in Essen, Germany, covers an area of more than 2,000 square meters. The main challenge was to transform the large open-plan office into a modern, relaxed and comfortable workspace that encourages teamwork whilst also enabling individual work. Color plays a key role here: rich shades of blue, yellow and green, along with brightly colored furniture provide a fresh and cheerful atmosphere, while other areas have more muted hues to aid concentration. Further structure is provided by movable shelf elements designed with an industrial twist.

A Taste of the 70s
One of the boldest design elements is a striped carpet running through the middle of the office floor. Left and right of it are opulent plants and seating islands for informal brainstorming meetings and get-togethers, with floor lamps, sofas and wooden tables creating a cozy ambience. High backrests and side cushions support employees in remaining focused, whilst the closed conference room is available for larger meetings. Another new highlight is the large communal area with cooking facilities for employees. The yellow bar and white bistro furnishings create a laid-back lounge zone which can also be used for after-work parties. Despite the strong color concept, care was taken to preserve the flair of the building which dates from the 70s, the original mahogany wall paneling, for example, remaining to create a smooth transition between the lounge zone and the office area.
