The new headquarters of Allplan Deutschland GmbH is located in Munich’s Nemetschek Haus, directly adjacent to the Riem exhibition center. Spread across three floors with a total of 1,900 square meters of office space, the Allplan Office was designed to accommodate 700 employees. The task of designing the space was entrusted to blocher partners, who developed a concept closely aligned with the client’s wishes: a workplace environment combining both classic principles and New Work ideals.
This dual approach materialized in smaller units accommodating two to six workstations, complemented by communicative open spaces with flexible workstation islands — subdivided using highly adaptable curtains.
Workstations are not assigned permanently but can be booked daily via a terminal. Each floor also features a dedicated community room where employees can take breaks and socialize. In the traditional office areas, blue and grey tones prevail, while in the community spaces, vibrant greens, bright orange niches, and light oak furniture create an inspiring, lively atmosphere. Conference rooms, by contrast, were clad in black slats, lending them an elegant and distinguished feel.
Throughout the entire project, great emphasis was placed on low-emission construction to promote the health, comfort, and well-being of the users, alongside the use of recyclable building materials. A noteworthy aspect of the project was the reuse of existing furniture, with new pieces introduced primarily in the communal areas.
In addition to the spatial design, the technical infrastructure was completely modernized — not only to enhance the functional efficiency of the workspace but also to significantly enrich the spatial experience.
Key features include biodynamic lighting, which adjusts color temperature and intensity throughout the day to mimic natural daylight, and sensors that monitor air quality. Acoustic comfort was also carefully addressed: effective ceiling sails and baffles were installed to noticeably improve the spatial acoustics and reduce workplace noise.
What do you consider the key qualities of a good workplace?
blocher partners:
Ultimately, the specific nature of a workplace or area of responsibility is determined by the company itself. As designers, we contribute by creating environments where employees feel comfortable — functionally, through elements such as chairs, desks, and lighting, and atmospherically through a coherent overall design. A well-balanced environment facilitates both collaborative and focused work, as well as personal exchange.
Do you see parallels between the design of residential and workspaces?
Yes, there are overlaps in the design of living and working environments. Both aim to create spaces where people feel comfortable and can act efficiently. At blocher partners, we pursue the philosophy of experience design, which places the needs and motivations of users at the forefront. This approach results in spaces that not only fulfill their intended functions but are also emotionally engaging — whether for living or working.
Which functional aspects do you consider decisive for the future development of workspaces?
Above all, flexibility and smart tools that allow spaces to adapt to changing requirements.
Which material-related aspects do you consider decisive for the future development of workspaces?
Materials that adhere to sustainable principles are becoming increasingly important.
