Design BRÜCKNERINNEN
Location München , Germany
We should not underestimate how much even the modern, globally operating, post-industrial human ultimately depends on a place. Even if they enjoy traveling and have chosen a profession that takes them to interesting cities, conferences, and company branches — once they stay somewhere for a longer period, they begin to seek something familiar to build upon. This applies primarily to one’s home, but equally to the workplace.

This insight forms the basis of the office concept developed by BRÜCKNERINNEN in Munich. The primary goal was to bring employees of the commissioning pharmaceutical company from international locations to Munich and to offer them “a sense of connection and belonging” — in other words, a human-centered, flexibly operating workspace. The inner-city building — a modern office complex — already establishes a connection to the urban fabric of the Bavarian capital. The interior of the four-wing office, arranged in a ring around a square inner courtyard, consists — combined with corporate identity accents — of four distinct color and material worlds inspired by the Bavarian mountains, forests, lakes, and the Isar River. Materials were carefully selected to match each narrative, emphasizing natural qualities and pleasant haptics. Great attention was also given to optimized room acoustics, including the use of sound-absorbing panels. The 2,000-square-meter workspace is characterized by open-plan offices. Focused work, confidential conversations, and spontaneous decision-making are supported by retreat niches, focus rooms, and small meeting areas. Flexibility is ensured through the furniture system, while custom lighting fixtures create atmospheric highlights. Through several design workshops, functional preferences and formal inspirations from both the international and regional experiences of the employees were incorporated into the concept. A global corporate philosophy meets local qualities—and alongside human interaction, a Best Workspace now actively supports this collaboration.
