A young creative company was looking for a new home in Cologne’s ‘Schanzenviertel’, a former industrial quarter now popular with start-ups. A building previously used for TV productions offered an area of 6,000 square meters – 500 workplaces were created here on a total of five floors. After analyzing the workflow patterns within their client’s company, stanke interiordesign developed an open floorplandefined by easily adjustable, multi-purpose areas to serve a variety of tasks and team constellations. Special focus was placed on promoting communication. Each section of the office is equipped with a spatial structure for informal meetings; a lounge corner with comfortable sofas further encourages conversations between colleagues. Some of the walls can be moved along metal rails, serving as whiteboards and acoustic elements, while other sections can be separated by curtains.
Warm colors and sensuous materials were used to counterbalance the rather industrial charm of the building with its many concrete, glass and steel surfaces. The color and material scheme remains consistent throughout the space, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both employees and visitors. The desks were made specifically for the client and reflect much of its start-up character, while some of the lighting elements take on an almost sculptural character.
